Marco Palombi

I was born in 1967 in Naples, Italy. I studied Computer Science at Harvard University for a Semester and received an Engineering degree, cum laude, from the University of Naples, Italy.

In 1991 I accepted a position as Manager for Procter & Gamble, France.

In 1993 I moved to McKinsey & Co. in Milan, Italy.

In 1995 I was recruited by Comau SpA, an Italian manufacturer of industrial automation equipment, and became the Director of Sales for South America, based in Brazil.

In 1998 I decided to return to Italy to pursue an entrepreneurial idea, Let’s TV, a non-Web digital television network for businesses, which I sold to Euphon in 2000.

In 2001 I founded Tipic Inc. in order to further a vision to help make the Web come alive (this is how it all got started).

In 2003 I was Member of the Board of the Jabber Software Foundation.

In 2006 I sold Tipic Inc. to DADA, which is part of the Rizzoli Corriere della Sera Group; at that time, Splinder, the blogging platform that Tipic had developed, had become the largest community site in Italy, with more than 5 million unique users per month.

In 2007, with other Italian entrepreneurs, I founded 1generation, a not for profit network with the objective of fostering entrepreneurship in Italy.

I am now trying to figure out the "big picture" about technology and where we are heading to ...

I speak Italian, English, French and Portuguese. I like reading about Science Fiction, Science, Technology and Economics.
